Royal Society announces judging panel for 2024 Trivedi Science Book Prize

A shortlist of 6 titles, selected from an overall of 254 submissions published in between 1st July 2023 and 30th September 2024, will certainly be introduced live as part of an occasion at the Edinburgh International Book Celebration on 12th August. The champion will be exposed at an event at the Royal Culture on 24th October, where they will be presented with a cheque for ₤ 25,000. Each of the five shortlisted writers will get a chequefor ₤ 2,500.

This year’s chairwill be professor of evolutionary biomechanics at the Royal Veterinary Collegeand Royal Culture Other teacher John Hutchinson. He will be joined by Booker Prize-winning writer and film writer Eleanor Catton; New Researcher remark and society editor Alison Flooding; teacher, author and broadcaster Bobby Seagull; and speaker in practical materials at Imperial University London, and Royal Culture college study fellow, Dr Jess Wade.

Hutchinson claimed: “It is an enjoyment to serve as judging panel chair for the respected 2024 Royal Society Trivedi Science Book Reward. When I was a young person, I exceptionally took advantage of my public and school collections’ stocks of scientific research publications, which kindled and maintained my passion in scientific research and nature. I won’t forget just how Rachel Carson’s Silent Springtime woke me up, at about 12 years of age, to environmentalism, which stays an enthusiasm. Throughout my undergraduate years, palaeontologist Stephen Jay Gould’s preferred science books persuaded me that I wished to seek a career examining evolutionary patterns and procedures. Now we live in an age when 250-word social media posts have effectiveness to get to the globe instantly, yet publications keep their staying power in disseminating and enhancing what information is one of the most reputable. Deciding the best science books of the year is a fantastic obstacle, a satisfaction and a possibility to be component of this process and thereby to sustain the communication of science.”
